Mezzo Soprano Ciara May McGrath

Recognized as a young and upcoming artist Ciara May McGrath is a 19 year old Mezzo Soprano from Ledyard, Connnecticut. She started training classically at the age of 11 with Jerrica Watrous at The Music Studio. She trained at The Music Studio for seven years where she was given several performance opportunities. These opportunities included studio recitals twice a year and admission in the Connecticut chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition where she won 1st place in her division three years in a row singing pieces such as “Voi, Che sapete” from Le Nozze di Figaro, “Must the Winter Come so soon?” From Vanessa, and “Che farò senza Euridice” from Orfeo ed Euridice (2021-2023).

McGrath attended Ledyard High School where she was heavily involved in the music program. Throughout her four years she was in seven of the choirs, including the award winning Ledyard Chamber Choir and Caroling group. She was given several performance opportunities through this program including participation in four concerts a year, the Eastern Regions Choir Festival, several musical theater productions including The Adam’s Family, Into the Woods (As Cinderellas Mother), and A Killer Party, as well as a four day Ledyard Choir Tour in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and several gigging opportunities through the Ledyard Carolers.

In McGrath’s first year as a Vocal Performance major at The Hartt School at The University of Hartford, she began studying under the internationally renowned Valerie Sorel. McGrath performed with the Hartt Choir at several concerts including a performance of the Mozart Coronation Mass at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford Connecticut. McGrath also had the opportunity to sing at one of the schools Power Hour performances where she performed “Der Tod und das Mädchen” by Schubert.

In McGrath’s second year at the Hartt School she performed with The Hartt Chamber Choir at several concerts and special events including the Presidents Inauguration for the University of Hartford and a concert at the Christ Church Cathedral. McGrath performed in another of the schools Power Hours singing “Sur les lagunes” From Les Nuits D’ete by Berlioz. In November 2024 she participated in a Master Class with Allen Perriello, the Director of Artistic Administration at Des Moines Metro Opera and later that month performed in The Hartt Schools Opera Gala as Nerone in the duet “Pur ti miro” from the opera L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi.
